HAMLET PRIVATE

In a close relationship between viewer and actor sitting at the table of a cafè, the performance investigates the world of Hamlet lying within ourselves. A tarot reading acts as an excuse to question one’s ego, in a story intertwining past, present and future through cold places such as Denmark and Norway, where the Shakespearean tragedy unfolds, and then taking us back to the here and now of present time. A performance for one actor and one spectator

There will be four sessions:11am -12pm -13pm -14pm
Time:45 minutes

Lucy Patrick: Pools of Colour

Pools of Colour celebrates the appearance and disappearance of ponds, pools and puddles in the city of Exeter through a riotous display of bold and bright paintings, collages, videos and light displays made by the artist who has been a resident of Exeter and currently lives in Moretonhampstead. It is the first of a series of installations sited in various villages, towns and cities around the world.

Visitors to the installation are invited to engage with Lucy’s “Puddle map of Exeter” showing the specific sites of the various pools of water that have inspired her. Drains are a particular attraction with the artist who compares them to:

“the eyes of a city,

Flashing gridded lids

Into the heart of the metropolis

Witnessing the comings and goings

Of Princesshay, the Central Station and Tudor Street,

Of the Iron Bridge, North Street and the Glorious Art

Café”.

Visitors can also log their own favourite ponds pools and puddles and are invited to contribute drawings or pieces of writing about these places. This exhibition is partially inspired by Psychogeography. This” is an approach to geography that emphasizes playfulness and "drifting" around urban environments. It has links to the Situationist International. Psychogeography was defined in 1955 by Guy Debord as "the study of the precise laws and specific effects of the geographical environment, consciously organized or not, on the emotions and behavior of individuals."[1] Another definition is "a whole toy box full of playful, inventive strategies for exploring cities... just about anything that takes pedestrians off their predictable paths and jolts them into a new awareness of the urban landscape.” (Wikepaedia)
